
Oil seals seal both rotating and stationary parts. Each shaft that comes out of the engine block has is a seal ring around it. A retaining ring is also used to seal a crankshaft or camshaft. With a crankshaft, the crankshaft seal will have to provide a seal when the engine is running and when it is stationary.
An oil seal has a strong outer edge with a flexible curve in the middle with a thin spring that together ensure the seal. Oil seals have a lot to endure such as high rotational speeds, high temperatures, high axial frequency movements, and the various chemicals in engine oil.
Reobijn produces the crankshaft seal under very close tolerances in very large numbers. Of course a multiple mold is used. The plastic is a PPA, and in this case a 45% glass fiber reinforced polyphthalamide.
