The very first swing closure was the Putnam Closure, which was designed by Henry William Putnam. On March 15, 1859, he was granted a patent for this design.
Charles De Quillfeldt improved the design and received a patent on January 5, 1875 for his invention called the Lightning stopper, because you could close the bottle very quickly (as fast as a lightning bolt). A cork was attached to the bottle with a bracket, with a rubber around the cork, which sealed the bottle completely.
Subsequently Karl Hutter improved the design. He no longer used cork, but a cap made of porcelain. The Hutter Closure was born, and he was granted his first patent for this innovation on February 7, 1893.
The stopper was initially made of porcelain, but is now made of plastic. Reobijn produces both 1-component clamp caps and 2-component clamp caps with an integrated seal on several machines with multiple molds. Reobijn can of course supply different color combinations and provide the flip top caps with a print.
Accurate dimensions are of great importance to ensure the automated processes in the bracket and filling installations run smoothly.
